Role of signal sequence in vaccine-induced protection against experimental coccidioidomycosis.
The vaccine efficacy of the gene sequence encoding the signal peptide of the antigen known as antigen 2 or proline-rich antigen (Ag2/PRA), an immunodominant antigen present in the cell wall of the fungal pathogen Coccidioides immitis, was investigated in a murine model of coccidioidomycosis. Expression plasmids for Ag2/PRA(1-18) DNA (signal sequence), Ag2/PRA(19-194) DNA (lacking the signal seq...
متن کاملRole of B cells in vaccine-induced immunity against coccidioidomycosis.
We investigated secondary immunity against coccidioidomycosis by using gene expression microarrays. Surprisingly, a high percentage of B-cell-related genes were associated with protective immunity. A functional confirmation of the importance of B cells against coccidioidomycosis was achieved by demonstrating that vaccination was not fully protective in B-cell-deficient MuMT mice.
متن کاملWhole glucan particles as a vaccine against systemic coccidioidomycosis.
We reported previously that yeast-derived whole glucan particles (WGPs), with or without conjugation to BSA, used as a vaccine protected against systemic aspergillosis in mice. Here, we examined their utility as a potential vaccine against coccidioidomycosis. WGPs were prepared from Saccharomyces cerevisiae; conjugation with BSA (WGP-BSA) was done using 1-cyano-4-dimethylaminopyridinium tetrafl...

متن کاملThe Quest for a Vaccine against Coccidioidomycosis, A Neglected Disease of the Americas Running title: Coccidioidomycosis vaccine strategies
Coccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever) is a disease caused by inhalation of Coccidioides spp. This neglected disease has substantial public health impact despite its geographic restriction to desert areas of the southwestern U.S., Mexico, Central and South America. The incidence of this infection in California and Arizona has been increasing over the past fifteen years. Several large cities are with...
